LGBT Silver Workers in the Workplace

There is age discrimination out there, but the good news is that more and more employers are recognizing the value of hiring “silver” workers. Many companies soon will face a shortage of workers due to the retirement of many baby-boomers. They also recognize the work ethic, wisdom and experience an older worker can bring to the workplace. Use these factors to your benefit! If you’re 50 or older and looking for a job, you probably have some questions about how this whole resume process applies to you. If you plan to write a resume yourself it can be intimidating, but visit http://www.eresumes.com/older-workers-resume.html for some tips directed at the older worker. There you will find templates for creating resumes and sample resumes.

Also of interest is The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) a part-time employment program for low-income persons age 55 or over. Program participants work at community and government agencies and are paid the federal or state minimum wage, whichever is higher. They may also receive training, and can use their participation as a bridge to other employment positions which are not supported with federal funds. The program is administered by the Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration (ETA). More information can be found by subscribing to the program's e-mail subscription service

or by calling (202) 693-3842.

Volunteering is a commitment we honor and promise to make a rewarding experience. We believe volunteers have great impact on the health and well-being of our town, our neighborhoods, our friends and families.
Hyssop volunteers play key roles in supporting the vision of addressing the needs of our community. Volunteer goals can range from promoting public awareness to delivering meals to home-bound seniors, or simply giving a sistah a weekly phone call to say "How are you today?"
We are the sum of our parts.
Volunteers are vital to accomplishing our goals, we take your promise to help achieve those goals seriously.
